Something about Midlands
Before the Industrial Revolution, the West Midlands were divided between Warwickshire, Staffordshire and Worcestershire. Over the years Birmingham and Coventry and the neighbouring towns began to expand their boundaries at the expense of the surrounding counties. Some rationlalization took place in 1966, and then in 1974, the new metropolitan county of Midlands was created.

Soho House in Birmingham, near Lozells, now a museum, was the home of Matthew Boulton from 1766 to 1809. It was here that meetings of the Lunar Society - a group of prominent scientists, engineers and thinkers - were held. The house was close to the long-since demolished Soho Manufactory, where Boulton pioneered the mass production of a wide range of items, including buttons, buckles and enamelled goods.
